Celebrating America’s 250th is underway in Huntington, in Indiana and throughout the United States. Planning has begun for events connected to the celebration in our community by a special committee. Updates will be shown on Facebook: Celebrating America’s 250th.
Huntington Mayor Richard Strick commented on the current ongoing celebration through 2026, and the details of the celebration logo, “I’m always excited to see Huntington residents rise to the opportunities facing us and I accept the ongoing celebration of America’s 250th anniversary as a free nation to be no exception.”
He further explained about the logo, “The “Spirit of Columbia” harkens back to the original 13 colonies and would later evolve into “Lady Liberty.” She is the female embodiment of what would become the United States and a symbol for liberty and justice. As the Vice President’s entrance march, “Hail, Columbia” extols – “Firm, united let us be, Rallying round our liberty, As a band of brothers joined, Peace and safety we shall find.” In the 250th year since the founding of our nation, it is good and right to remember that we all must work together to preserve our liberties and ensure justice for all. I hope all residents will join in to let freedom ring throughout our fair community!”
